Is it right for your kids?

Leogang is a genuine World Cup downhill venue, but the family draw is its valley base: one of Europe's largest beginner areas, a 30,000 m² Riders Playground with a magic-carpet conveyor lift and a pumptrack. A five-year-old can progress at the base while older kids move onto the 800 m Greenhorn line and other easy freeride trails. It's a strong family pick precisely because the gentle stuff and the gnarly stuff live on the same hill — just note the Riders Playground needs a lift ticket and the easy terrain is at the base, not the summit.

Good to know for parents

•The valley base hosts the 30,000 m² Riders Playground with a magic-carpet conveyor lift and a pumptrack, so younger kids can progress at the base; note that the park's bike school states a lift ticket for the Riders Playground is required, so it is not free access.
•Kids' rental bikes are available locally (e.g. Sport Mitterer in Leogang, models from 16" up to 27.5"); bikepark protective gear including full-face helmets and knee/elbow pads can be hired on site.
•Full-face helmet, back protector, knee and elbow guards are strongly recommended for park trails — budget for protection hire if you don't bring your own (a family blog reported their kids needed full-face helmet plus knee and elbow protectors).
•Epic Bikeschule / Elements runs kids' courses: Mini Shred from age 5 (younger on request), and Greenhorn / Rookie / Step Up days from age 8 — book ahead, as a guided day is the fastest way onto the Greenhorn.
•The gondola carries bikes (roughly every second car) and walk-down hiking routes descend from the top, so a tired or overfaced child has a non-riding way down.
