Biketrails Flims Laax

A real green flow trail (Foppa) straight off the FlemXpress gondola, plus a conveyor-belt skills area, makes this one of the more genuinely beginner-friendly big resorts in the Alps.

Trip notes

Is it right for your kids?

Flims Laax is one of the rare big Swiss resorts where the easiest line is actually easy: the green Foppa Trail drops straight from the FlemXpress gondola through pine forest on gentle undulations and wide berms, with high bumps and jump edges intentionally omitted. Add a conveyor-belt Pump n Play skills area and bike camps that take kids from age 4, and it's a strong pick for families starting out, while older or bolder kids can progress onto the blue Gronda and red Runca (whose features can all be rolled). The main caveats are altitude and a long drive south, so plan a multi-day trip rather than a day hit.

Trails to know

Foppa Trail

Foppa Trail

· 3.5 km

Purpose-built green style trail off the FlemXpress (first FOPPA exit); gentle undulations, wide berms and clear lines, with high bumps and jump edges intentionally omitted — an ideal first descent for kids and families.

Gronda Trail

Gronda Trail

· Not found

Easy flow with berms and small jumps that can also be rolled over — a natural next step once kids are comfortable on Foppa.

Runca Trail

Runca Trail

· approx. 6 km (full trail)

IMBA-labelled Flow Country trail (awarded 2012); jumps and big berms, but all obstacles can be rolled around (chicken runs), so confident families can ride it together while bolder riders style the features.

Good to know for parents

Kids' bike camps run two tiers: Kids Camp Mini (ages 4-5, playful basics) and Kids Camp (from age 6, for children who already ride safely) - book through LAAX School.
The Pump n Play area at rocksresort (Laax Murschetg) has a conveyor belt for laps, so young kids don't have to push back up - good for confidence-building (a separate pumptrack also sits in Flims village).
Start on the green Foppa Trail, reached via the FlemXpress gondola from Flims; you can also pedal up the paved alpine road as a warm-up.
The Runca Trail is rated red but all its obstacles can be rolled around (chicken runs), so mixed-ability families can ride it together while bolder riders take the jumps and berms.
Lift biking from the Laax base station runs roughly late June to late October (26 June-25 Oct 2026, daily approx. 08:45-14:00); the Flims/Foppa side can open earlier in May when the cable cars are running - check current opening hours before travelling.
