Trip notes

Is it right for your kids?

Pohorje is best known as a Downhill World Cup venue, but for families the draw is the conveyor-lift Skills Park and the green Family Line — a 2.4 km descent of gentle bumps and flowing turns that even nervous first-timers can roll. Older or braver kids can graduate to the 5.2 km Flow Line, whose main-line obstacles are all designed to be rollable. It is a strong family choice, with the caveat that the operator publishes no minimum age, so call ahead about lift access and rental for very young riders.

Trails to know

Family Line

Family Line

· 2.4 km

Gentle bumps, flowing turns and wooden features over a 237 m descent from the cable-car mid-station — the easiest real descent and a good first lap for kids.

Flow Line

Flow Line

· 5.2 km

All main-line obstacles are designed to be rollable over a 702 m descent — a long, confidence-building blue once kids have the basics.

ZigZag

ZigZag

· beginner trail

No jumps, roots or technical obstacles, just lots of curves for practising cornering — a technique trail suitable for all ages, including first-timers.

Ruška Family

Ruška Family

· 1.3 km

Bumps and flowing berms plus small jumps over a 214 m descent (Ruška chairlift, Areh side) — a natural next step up for a kid ready to leave the ground.

Good to know for parents

The Skills Park has its own conveyor lift, so kids can lap drills (rollers, low jumps, corners) without pedalling back up — it is pitched as suitable for children, teens and adults with no prior experience.
A complete Protection Set is rentable from the Sport Center Gondola rental (20 EUR/day or 15 EUR/4h); confirm by phone whether full-face helmets and child sizes are included, as the inventory does not state this.
The Pohorska vzpenjača gondola runs every day on the hour roughly 7:00–21:00, with no 08:00 car on Mondays for maintenance — check the seasonal bike schedule before relying on a late uplift.
Family Line starts from the cable-car mid-station, so you can take a shorter uplift with younger kids rather than committing to the full 702 m Flow Line top-to-bottom.
The Skills Park is structured around learning (posture, braking, speed control, cornering), making it a good place for a coached first session — worth checking availability ahead for a first-timer.
